Summary
Survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, sexual assault, human trafficking, and similar crimes may need to separate their mobile phone line from an account shared an abuser. The Safe Connections Act of 2022 enables them to do this even if they are not the account holder. They can also request separation of a line of someone in their care, such as a minor child.
Line separation allows survivors to continue using their existing phone number safely. To learn more about how they can do so, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has created a guide for survivors.
