Summary

StopNCII is a tool for survivors of image-based abuse to proactively prevent their images from being shared or posted on participating  tech platforms. Survivors can file a request to register their images on StopNCII.  If the image falls under StopNCII guidelines, then  StopNCII generates a hash of the image, a “digital fingerprint”, that it uses to identify the photo when someone attempts to post it to platforms including Facebook, Instagram, OnlyFans, and Google. This will proactively prevent someone from posting or re-posting an image. StopNCII does not store the survivor’s raw image to work, only the digital fingerprint of the image, and it only works for participating platforms. StopNCII cannot stop someone from sending an image through private messaging, and the survivor must have access to the image.
